Cosmetology I: Chemical Texturing
  • Working on mock chemical relaxers and curly perms
  • Data Team Report:  Pre to Post Common assessment results, the percent of students who scored 80 or higher on the pre-common assessment covering the Anatomy and Physiology unit was 2%.  After completing the unit 67% scored 80% or higher. That is a 65% gain!
Cosmetology II (1st and 2nd blocks): Continuing with Hair Styling Unit:
Advanced Cosmetology (3rd block): Continuing with Advanced Styling and Shaping principles unit:

  • One of the jobs that can be obtained by a cosmetologist is working with run way shows, hair shows, etc. We are working on plans for our hairshow. Various activities will be going on:
1. hairstyles
2. make-up
3. nails
4. dance
5. written plans
Practice hair styles, make-up, nails, dance, for hair show, write down likes and dislike about the hair styles created for future reference *keep a written plan of hair show ideas
Principles of Hair Design: proportion, balance, rhythm, emphasis, harmony

After completing the unit 16% scored 80% or higher. That is a 14% gain!  Not good, we can do better, we have to do better.  Problem, we spent too much time performing versus written/note-taking.

Monday, Timed Assessment:  Demonstrate proper braiding and intertwining hair techniques.
Wednesday, Assessment:  Identify styling instruments, types and shapes of hair rollers, and types of curls.HS-ACS-12. Students will display continuity of salon services they have previously mastered.

Demonstrate application of skills through salon services via client or mannequin (hairstyling, chemical, skin, and nail services, etc.).

HS-ACS-9. Students will create various wearable and marketable day, evening, and formal hairstyles on live models/mannequins using hair design principles.

*Cosmetology Club--pay club dues before or by October 8th, last chance.  Dues were due by September 17th.  We need to order our shirts.  Keep those grades up and watch your behavior in all classes and school sponsored activities!

Cosmetology I 

HS-CS-I-7. Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of anatomy as it relates to massage in facials, manicures, and pedicures. Students will demonstrate knowledge of anatomy as it relates to bone structure and muscle contours in hair cutting, facials, and makeup.
Complete and discuss Chapter Review: Anatomy and Physiology

  • Describe the importance of anatomy and physiology to the cosmetology profession. 
  • Explain cells, their structure, and their reproduction. 
  • Define tissue and name the types of tissues found in the body. 
  • Demonstrate the proper massage procedures in manicures, pedicures, and facial massage.

 Cosmetology II and Advanced Cosmetology

HS-CS-II-3. Students will study the fundamental theory and skills required to shampoo and create various hair styles and shapes.Continue current Unit: HairStyling

HS-ACS-9. Students will create various wearable and marketable day, evening, and formal hairstyles on live models/mannequins using hair design principles.
  • Demonstrate clockwise and counterclockwise moldings and shapings. 
  • Identify the parts of a pincurl. 
  • Identify stem directions used in roller setting and explain their functions. 
  • Demonstrate roller placement in relation to various bases. 
  • Explain the principles of finger waving. 
  • Demonstrate various finger wave techniques on a mannequin.

Welcome Back!

For the next 10 days there wil be a lot of schedule changes so until most schedules are finalized, we will do a number of icebreakers, introductory type assignmnets so you all can get to know your fellow classmates and get a feel for classroom expectations, outlook, etc.
Come in with high expectations and a positive attitude--this is just the beginning
