Cosmetology (Salon Services)

SYLLABUS
Cosmetology Courses offered 2013-2014:  Salon Services I, Salon Services II, and Salon Services  III. 
Cosmetology courses provide students with an opportunity to become familiar with the cosmetology profession, GA State Board of Cosmetology, laws, rules and regulations, and introduces the fundamental theory and practices of the profession.
Specialized training will be offered in:  theory; safety; sanitation; state laws, rules and regulations; chemistry; anatomy and physiology; skin and nail care; hair coloring; reception; lab and salon management.
Career Interests:  cosmetologists, salon owners or managers, estheticians, nail technicians, platform artists or industry sales representatives

ELECTRONICS
NO ELECTRONICS SHOULD BE USED OR SEEN! Put away before you walk into classroom.   Refer to Student Handbook.
GRADING

LAB (Salon)
All performance-based work is considered Lab.  Salon I students will be introduced to lab work and procedures.  Lab will be incorporated as needed for Salon I students.  Salon II and Salon III students will have extensive lab hours/credit.  NO FOOD OR DRINKS IN LAB!

B e prepared.  Be organized. Be Prompt. Be courteous. Be accountable. Be responsible.  Be knowledgeable.  Be self-regulated learners.  Fulfill duties as assigned. Adhere to course standards.  Ask questions if not sure. 
RULES
No horse-playing.  No profanity.  No disrespect.  No food.  No electronics. Stay on task.  Be self-regulated learners!  Be professional/employable—refer to explanation listed above. Adhere to course standards.  Ask questions if not sure.
SUPPLIES
Cosmetology Services I students are required to bring their own combs and butterfly hair clamps.  Cosmetology Services I students may bring their own manikin but is not required. 
Salon Services II and Salon services III students are required to have their own manikins, haircutting shears, combs, butterfly hair clamps—manikin’s hair need to be long enough for several cuts and styles. 
Written assignment supplies for all cosmetology students:  small 3-ring notebook with pockets, posters, color pencils, markers, writing utensils, notebook paper, index cards.
SAFETY POLICY
Adhere to classroom rules to prevent injuries.  Proper attire (apron or cape), closed-toe shoes, and gloves should be worn when working on manikins and humans in salon/lab to prevent injuries, skin diseases, ruining clothes, etc.  Practice cleanliness at all times—leave your workstation clean.  Adhere to course standards.
TUTORING
Extra help outside of class time will be offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings by appointment.
